What to Expect

Never had acupuncture, wondering what to expect?

Acupuncture needles are teeny tiny, about the size of a human hair. Depending on the style of needling, you may not feel insertion at all, you may feel a small ache or a pinch that should dissipate in 10 seconds.

We’ll start your treatment with a thirty minute health intake based off of your Health History Forms. After intake, I’ll have you start on the table, face up, while I do a few more diagnostic things like checking the pulse, taking a look at your tongue and pressing lightly into your abdomen. Then, we get started!

Needles are inserted into points along meridian channels. Each of these points will ask the body to change in a very specific way. The beauty of acupuncture is that each treatment is specific to each patient. No treatment is ever alike.

After the front treatment, I will ask you to go face down on the table and we will do a back treatment followed by any additional adjunctive treatments I find necessary.

After the first treatment, you may feel reduced pain, calm and relaxed. Things can move during acupuncture, so you may also feel energized and productive. Whichever way you’re leaning, listen to your body. Take a nap, go on a walk or light jog or do some yoga.

Acupuncture is an accumulative treatment. Each session, you should notice more positive and longer lasting change. Depending on your prognosis and treatment plan, acupuncture may become a part of your healthcare routine.
